My Assistant

 Jan Ferguson

Jan has attended several hundred births on Maui over the past 25 years. Her path to midwifery began with the home births of her own children and concurrent 5 year apprenticeship with the midwife who attended her, Sunny Supplee. Since 1998 she has been a  Certified Professional Midwife and worked with a number of different midwives on Maui.

Jan and I have know each other for over 24 years of which 19 years we have worked together side by side as a team in midwifery. She has incredible insight which has helped immensely in birthing along with her practical objective opinions that provoke much inner thought. She can quickly analyze a situation and bring it to light in the most understandable way. We work together in a flow and our intuition compliments the birthing experience. I feel together we provide incredible skill and nurturing interaction for our families we serve.

In addition to home birth services Jan offers doula care, labor support and patient advocacy at the hospital, and postpartum care.

Other professional experiences include prenatal yoga teacher and community childbirth instructor with Maui Childbirth Association and Maui Family Services.

She has a deep trust in the process of pregnancy and birth. Her role is to guide support and respect families through birth and the early postpartum period in whatever way is right for them.

"It is my honor to be with women and families in such a pivotal time in their lives. My hope is that their experience will be enhanced by the care and experience I offer."

Jan has lived on Maui for over 40 years and lives with her husband Mark in Kula. They have three grown children - Haley, Tiare, and Kellen along with their pet dog Duke.
